A little bit About Us…

We started in 2009 as Transition Chipping Norton – a community initiative to help local people transition away from fossil fuels and towards a more sustainable way of living. Some of our early projects involved setting up the Chipping Norton Community Orchard, campaigning for better cycling provision and a community allotment.

Fast forward to 2023, we constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation to better meet the needs of our community. We are still part of the worldwide Transition Network, but in 2025 we rebranded as Sustainable Chipping Norton, in line with many other Transition Groups.

We are also part of Community Action Groups Oxfordshire, a network of over 50 Oxfordshire groups at the forefront of community led climate change action, organising events and projects to take action on issues including waste, transport, food, energy and biodiversity. The network runs over 1,000 events per year, attended by over 60,000 local residents.

Our Most recent impacts

Take a look through our recent Impact Reports which capture how these projects have strengthened resilience, enhanced the environment and connected people.

2025 Age-Friendly Award winner

Youth work and connected communities continues to be at the heart of our ethos, and we were delighted to win an award from Incommon for our Intergenerational Youth Social Action in April 2025.

Its beginning to feel a lot like Christmas...

Many thanks to Willow Gardens and the Wychcraft Rock and Pop Choir for hosting us in the Bistro for the wonderful Christmas sing-along on Wednesday.

So great to see so many happy faces bopping along to The Beetles and joining us to make mini Christmas hats.

Thanks to MOR Bakery for the mince pies which went down well...

Two more sessions to go till Christmas (17th Dec is our last one this year). Please do come and join us from 2 - 4 in Willow Gardens. Feel free to bring a project of your own, learn something new, or just sit and have a welcome chat.

What a lively and heartwarming evening it was on Friday at our Repair Cafe! Thank you to our two new volunteer repairers, you made so many people happy with garden shear sharpening, repairing a treasured glass cabinet that had been broken for 7 years, hair straighteners, a crocheted shawl and a lawnmower, amongst other items...

The clothing swap saw many clothes being given a new lease of life and saved from landfill.

And huge thank you to Marcus, and Lucy from the International Tree Foundation who gave us 150 native trees/hedging to be planted in our area - this will be a real boost to nature and give pleasure to wildlife and people for years to come. We have just 12 trees left which we will be distributing this week.

Our community weaving is gaining new threads as we connect with different people across the area through our different groups and activities, each one adding their own desires and style to create a cohesive piece of artwork.

Our craft and food areas were very popular too, and with home grown butternut squash made by our members and other yummy goods including end-of-day pastries from MOR Bakery it is no surprise!

We would love you to come along and be part of this too - whether you are helping save things from landfill, bringing or taking items away, helping serve refreshments, welcoming people or sweeping up at the end, or you just want to pop your head round the door and see what we do, you will be very welcome.

Our next Repair Cafe and Clothing Swap is Friday 24th April 5 - 8

We have General Swap Shop with Crafts and food on Friday 30th January 5 - 8...Volunteers needed from 4.
